In the [https://www.showbizpizza.com/info/promo/cei/cei_1977promo.pdf original concept art] done by Dave Thomas,Elfen John was planned to be significantly shorter,barley being able to reach up to his piano.He also had a significantly larger head.Later on all the elfs would be increased in size. <ref name="cep1">[https://www.showbizpizza.com/info/promo/cei/cei_1977promo.pdf showbizpizza.com]</ref> The bot was installed in 1977 in Santa's Village (Jefferson, New Hampshire) by [[Creative Engineering]] for the first full show that they developed. <ref name="cep2">[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_xrIayIsV8 youtube.com]</ref> Elfen John resided on the left side of center stage.

Elfen John would stay mostly unchanged over the years with the only major modification being done around 1990,when his original red shorts were removed,his original red vest was replaced with a green one made of a velvet like material with white fur accents,and general wear and tear.

In 2003 <ref name="cep4">[https://www.showbizpizza.com/events/12daysofdata/index.html showbizpizza.com]</ref> the show would receive a complete refurbishment.The only major change this time to Elfen John was his original upright piano getting replaced with a new white grand,the mech and keys however stayed the same.He was also turned to face the audience.

In 2006, the original [[Creative Engineering]] animatronics would be removed and replaced by ones created by Advanced Animations ,but the showtape wasn't replaced.<ref name="cep3">[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXRLC910FQA youtube.com]</ref>

As his name implies he is an elf parody of [https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elton_John Elton John].He is an Elf wearing a pair of green eccentric glasses,a green long sleeve shirt,a green pair of pants,a red pair of shorts held up by 2 red criss cross suspenders,a red vest with white fur accents,a pair of red pointy shoes with silver bells on the tips,and a red Santa hat.
