In the [https://www.showbizpizza.com/info/promo/cei/cei_1977promo.pdf original concept art] done by Dave Thomas,Satchmo was planned to be significantly shorter with a much more hunchbacked posture and more exaggerated proportions.Later on all the elfs would be increased in size. <ref name="cep1">[https://www.showbizpizza.com/info/promo/cei/cei_1977promo.pdf showbizpizza.com]</ref> The bot was installed in 1977 in Santa's Village (Jefferson, New Hampshire) by [[Creative Engineering]] for the first full show that they developed. <ref name="cep2">[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_xrIayIsV8 youtube.com]</ref> Satchemo resided on the very back of center stage in front of the fireplace.

Satchmo would stay mostly unchanged over the years with the only major modification being done around 1990,when his original red shorts were removed,his original red vest was replaced with a green one made of a velvet like material with white fur accents,a goatee being added to his mask,and general wear and tear.

In 2003 <ref name="cep4">[https://www.showbizpizza.com/events/12daysofdata/index.html showbizpizza.com]</ref> the show would receive a complete refurbishment.No visable modifications would be done to Satchmo.

Satchmo as his name implies is a parody of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Armstrong Louis Armstrong] who's nickname was Satchmo! He is an Elf playing a trumpet that's wearing a green long sleeve shirt,a green pair of pants,a red pair of shorts held up by 2 red criss cross suspenders,a red vest with white fur accents,a pair of red pointy shoes with silver bells on the tips,and a red Santa hat.
