The Chet Fattykins (Animatronic) was an animatronic character built by Creative Engineering for the Bear Country Jubilee which was sold to Morey's Piers and Americana Amusement Park. He is most likely a parody of country rock guitarist, Chet Atkins.

History

The first Chet Fattykins bot started development and was built in late 1977-early 1978 along with the rest of the Bear Country Jubilee after being commissioned by the LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park which bough it as part of a 3.5 million dollar expansion and rebranding to become the "Americana Amusement Park - the Great American Amusement Park". [1] Chet would be scheduled to be installed in the spring of 1978 along with the rest of the show. [2] This first bot would operate for 16 years until the show's removal in 1993.It is unknown what happened to this bot

Shortly after the Americana show was installed, Morey's Pier commissioned a Bear Country Jubilee of their own from Creative Engineering .With this came a second Chet Faddikins bot which would be installed in the same year. This bot would operate for 6 years, time in which the show fell into major disrepair in its final years. At the end of the 1984 operating season [3] the entirety of the Bear Country Jubilee was sold back to Creative Engineering .When the Chet Faddikins from this set arrived he came with his head taken off,his guitar missing [4] and his eyes and eyelids removed. [5] There was also heavy black staining on the fur around the guitar's mount and the hands. The entire show would be restored in 1984 bringing Chet back to his former glory. The whole show was also upgraded to a modified Rock-afire Explosion Control System instead of the original yet by then outdated Tone Decoder Control System. The show was intended to be sold however nobody ended up buying it.Eventually around 1987 the show was moved in the space [6] that once was the first programing room [7] at Creative Engineering .The bot stood there for many years until late 2023 when the Jefferson building would be emptied out to move the assets to the Creative Engineering Museum

The bot currently resides right in front of the Center stage of the Classic Stage at the museum.

It's important to note both of these bots only acted as Chet Fattykins for a very short time. When Creative Engineering introduced the successor to the Bear Country Jubilee at the CEI 1979 IAAPA Show (Event) named the Hard Luck Bears the original Bear Country Jubilee Showtape was replaced at both Americana [8] and Morey's Pier with a slightly different version of the showtape used for the Hard Luck Bears .It's unclear if this version of the tape or the one used for the Hard Luck Bears is the original version, but the Bear Country Jubilee version (used at Americana) has multiple noticeable differences, such as a short segment at the beginning for Mortimer Moose and Buford Buffalo ,the complete absence of Gooney Bird , Repete Thornsberry 's singing actually being heard during the chorus of the Smitty's song, and varios other minor differences like certain segments, specifically the ones where Gooney Bird speaks in the Hard Luck Bears version the having noticeable background noise, implying the clips could be uncut.

In this version of the tape Chet took on the role of Billy Wilbur

Design

As his name implies he is a parody of Musician, songwriter and producer Chet Atkins He's a large bear with black claws on his feet and hands, blue eyes,a tan face with red rosy cheeks and depending on the version of the show he had grey fur with a belly lighter in color or white fur.He plays the acoustic guitar on center stage. In his design at the Americana Amusement Park, he had gray fur with a white stomach, and wore a blue vest with yellow flowers and stars. At an unknown date, this was switched to a blue bandana and cowboy hat. At Morey's Piers, he had all white fur and wore just a yellow bandana around his neck.

Mechanical Structure

Chet is a very rudimentary bot, similar to many early Creative Engineering characters. His body is one big fiberglass shell mounted onto the mech with a few steal beams bolted onto the inside, all of which are connected to a thick steal rod which goes trough two 2 bolt pillow blocks mounted onto a black steel base. These allow the body to pivot side to side, which is actuated trough a cylinder in his right leg. [9] The plate is mounted onto the leg frame which is made up of a steal plate and 2 steel pipes. [10]

Chet's head mech is your typical early CEI head, with a main fiberglass shell that also includes the ears and with a hatch on the back,a few pieces of steal at the very front to act as an eye bar, eyelid and jaw lever mounts. The eyelid cylinders are are mounted onto a steal rod at the very back of the head, the eye turns cylinders, which are connected to each other back to back are also connected to a clevis on the back right side of the head near the hatch, the mouth cylinder is mounted onto the top of the head, the head tilt cylinder is mounted on the left side of the head and is likely connected to he head up mechanism. It's unknown how the head up works on Chet as no photos of it have surfaced, but judging by other early CEI characters it's likely a rod that goes trough the bottom of the head and then into two 2 bolt flange bearings, one on each side, the cylinder however is likely mounted in the front instead of the back. [11]

It's unknown how his strum hand's mech works but it's located inside his guitar and is more likely then not a rod that goes trough a 2 bolt flange bearing, with the rod being turned by the cylinder pulling on a bar welded on it's back. The slide hand mechanism is very poorly documented but judging by photos it seems to be a hollow steel rod onto which the hand is mounted onto, sliding on another steel rod and being presumably being pulled by a cylinder in the guitar.

Movements

The bot has 11 movements. On the outside of the bot only 10 of the valves are visible as the valve for the mouth is inside the bot's body

While each movement has it's own valve certain movements on the show run off of the same bit meaning they'd be synced up.However it's not clear which of these movements were synced as the show's Bit Chart as of now is unknown.
