The Beatrice (Animatronic) was an animatronic character built by Creative Engineering for the Bear Country Jubilee sold to the Americana Amusement Park and Morey's Pier . Her mask mold and part of her mech was later reused for the first Little Queenie for the Wolf Pack 5.

History

The first Beatrice bot started development and was built in late 1977-early 1978 along with the rest of the Bear Country Jubilee after being commissioned by the LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park which bough it as part of a 3.5 million dollar expansion and rebranding to become the Americana Amusement Park - the Great American Amusement Park". [1] Beatrice would be scheduled to be installed in the spring of 1978 along with the rest of the show. [2] She resided on stage left with the Head Bobbing Beaver (Animatronic) and the Head Bobbing Racoon (Animatronic) on a backdrop of flower bushes and a mountain range. This first bot would operate for 16 years until the show's removal in 1993.It is unknown what happened to this bot

Shortly after the Americana show was installed, Morey's Pier commissioned a Bear Country Jubilee of their own from Creative Engineering .With this came a second Beatrice bot which would be installed in the same year. She would also reside on stage left like at Americana but the backdrop was different, being instead of either the inside or outside of a log house with wooden door. She was also only accompanied by the Head Bobbing Racoon (Animatronic) .This bot would operate for 6 years, time in which the show fell into major disrepair in its final years. At the end of the 1984 operating season [3] the entirety of the Bear Country Jubilee was sold back to Creative Engineering .When the Beatrice from this set arrived she was showing noticeable melting on her mask especially near the eye sockets, [4] but overall she was probably in the best shape out of all of the bears [5] .The entire show would be restored in 1984 bringing Beatrice back to her former glory. The whole show was also upgraded to a modified Rock-afire Explosion Control System instead of the original yet by then outdated Tone Decoder Control System. The show was intended to be sold however nobody ended up buying it.Eventually around 1987 the show was moved in the space [6] that once was the first programing room [7] at Creative Engineering .The bot stood there for many years until late 2023 when the Jefferson building would be emptied out to move the assets to the Creative Engineering Museum

The bot currently resides near the back of the showroom which houses the Classic Stage at the museum.

It's important to note both of these bots only acted as Beatrice for a very short time. When Creative Engineering introduced the successor to the Bear Country Jubilee at the CEI 1979 IAAPA Show (Event) named the Hard Luck Bears the original Bear Country Jubilee Showtape was replaced at both Americana [8] and Morey's Pier with a slightly different version of the showtape used for the Hard Luck Bears .It's unclear if this version of the tape or the one used for the Hard Luck Bears is the original version, but the Bear Country Jubilee version (used at Americana) has multiple noticeable differences, such as a short segment at the beginning for Mortimer Moose and Buford Buffalo ,the complete absence of Gooney Bird , Repete Thornsberry 's singing actually being heard during the chorus of the Smitty's song, and varios other minor differences like certain segments, specifically the ones where Gooney Bird speaks in the Hard Luck Bears version the having noticeable background noise, implying the clips could be uncut.

In this version of the tape Beatrice took on the role of Mama Granbags

Design

Creative Engineering

When Beatrice was first built she was a fully black bear dressed like a Southern belle, wearing a white hat with pink polka dots and with flowers in it, a pink puff sleeve dress with white edges, and round rim glasses. She was also holding a bouquet of flowers.

Americana

When she was actually installed at the Americana Amusement Park her head fur was made a light grey while the rest of her stayed black, she was also given a short white dress shawl tied with a red ribbon. Her bouquet was also removed

Morey's Pier

At Morey's Piers, she wore a red patterned nightgown,a blue apron with various stitched patterns, and rectangle rim glasses. She was given gray hair and her fur was also made a uniform dark gray.

Mechanical Structure

Beatrice is unfortunately the least documented bot when it comes to her mech, but from what is known she is relatively similar to the mech Little Queenie from the Wolf Pack 5 when it comes to her torso and arms, specifically the Little Queenie built for the first set, which had a body tilt movement as opposed to the body lean later Queenie's had.Otherwise Beatrice has a black steal base/frame which sits under her dress instead of actual legs like other characters from the show and she has an eye popping movement like the Satchmo (Animatronic) .

Movements

The bot has 11 movements. On the outside of the bot only 10 of the valves are visible as the valve for the mouth is inside the bot's body

While each movement has it's own valve certain movements on the show run off of the same bit meaning they'd be synced up.However it's not clear which of these movements were synced as the show's Bit Chart as of now is unknown.
