Elfis (Animatronic) was an animatronic character built by Creative Engineering for the Jingle Bell Jamboree to be use at Santa's Village in Jefferson, New Hampshire). He is Santa's only rock 'n' rebel.
History
In the original concept art done by Dave Thomas Elfis was planned to be on a balcony on the left side of the stage, but it was later changed so that he would appear in the middle [1] he was then installed in 1977 in Santa's Village (Jefferson, New Hampshire) by Creative Engineering for the first full show that they developed. [2] Elfis would appear on stage about halfway trough the show after Rudolph's Segment using a trap door. For the first half of the show he would be lying down on his back under a carpet in the middle of the stage. When Rudy's number would start and center stage's curtains were closed the carpet would be pulled back and Elfis would be lifted up.
Around the mid 80's Elfis's original plain white shirt would be replaced with a Santa's village shirt,he'd be given a red and white striped bandana around his neck and he'd have white gloves placed over his hands.Around the late 80's,possibly 1988 his original jeans were either dyed or replaced with a darker pair.In 1989 his white Santa's village shirt was replaced with a black shirt and his gloves would get swaped out for black ones.Around 1992 He was also given a red polka dot bandana around his neck and a new white shirt. [3]
Around this time the show would start falling into disrepair with multiple movements on Elfis being poorly adjusted [4]
In 2003 [5] the show would receive a complete refurbishment.Elfis would recive a new mask presumably made by the park.Along with this, his bandana, shirt, jeans, and microphone would all get replaced. His original trapdoor system would also get entirely replaced. Now he'd be mounetd onto a skateboard attached to a spinning platform disguised as a circular rug with a giant Christmas tree in the middle, which Elfis would be hidden behind in the first half of the show.
In 2006, the original Creative Engineering animatronics would be removed and replaced by ones created by Advanced Animations ,but the showtape wasn't replaced.[6]
The original Creative Engineering bots would be placed into the park's storage and left there for many years.Eventually the masks of the figures started melting and dripping onto the cosmetics. To avoid ruining the cosmetics, park employees would remove all the figures heads and put them off to the side. The figures are allegedly still in storage headless. Design
As his name implies he is an elf parody of Elvis Presley, wearing a leather jacket with a white shirt, bleached jeans, brown leather belt and slicked-back black hair.
Movements
The animatronic has 12 movements, not counting his raising from under the trapdoor.
