Greece, NY (3160 W Ridge Rd)
Greece, NY (3160 W Ridge Rd) was a Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre located within Ames Plaza (later Greece Park Mall and now Lowe's Plaza) that opened on March 15, 1983, with a Balcony Stage and closed in November 1996 with a 2-Stage. This location should not be confused with Greece, NY (3130 W Ridge Rd), which is a Chuck E. Cheese's that opened on July 5, 2003, in the same plaza with a Studio C Beta and is still open with the 2.0 remodel.
History
Pre-Pizza Time Theatre
Two Guys Plaza was built in 1966, and its original major anchor was the department store Two Guys, its namesake. In late 1981, the Two Guys department store permanently closed, as the company was liquidating. In 1982, Ames opened, and the plaza was renamed Ames Plaza. The former Two Guys space would mostly be reused for Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theatre [1]; 17,312 square feet of the 22,000 square feet of the space would be used for the restaurant [2].
Years of Operation
The Greece Pizza Time Theatre opened on March 15, 1983. Its opening made it the second Pizza Time Theatre in the Rochester area after Penfield, NY (1614 Penfield Rd), as well as the sixth in New York. Greece's Balcony Stage opened with the Tunnel of Love (Balcony Stage Theme) that featured Madame Oink. Greece also opened with The King, who remained in the store for its entire lifetime. In 1989, the store's Balcony Stage was retrofitted into a Chuck E.'s House Facade, and in 1992, the store received its final stage, a 2-Stage.
Closure
In November 1996, the Greece Chuck E. Cheese's permanently closed. The portion of the plaza where the Pizza Time Theatre was located was demolished and rebuilt for a Lowe's, which remains today, and the plaza was renamed to Lowe's Plaza.
Fate of the Animatronics
On November 26, an auction of Greece's assets was held on-site, where all equipment, appliances, games, and animatronics from the store, notably the King, were auctioned off [3]. The King was purchased by a local fun center. His current whereabouts are unknown. The current whereabouts of the rest of the Cyberamics are also unknown.
