The Moon (Animatronic) was an animatronic prop character built by Creative Engineering featured on the Rock-afire Explosion stage.It is a very simple figure that is located behind the treebackdrop on the right side of center stage behind Mitzi.
History
The first Moon animatronic debuted on august 14th 1981 at the Jacksonville, FL (9820 Atlantic Blvd) store.This first version of the Moon was nearly identical to every future Moon,with him using the exact same mask sculpt,which was sculpted by Dave Thomas.The only major difference between the various Moons over the years is the paint job.The first Moon animatronic had a unique paint job,with him being painted white with black craters and a red cheek and nose.It's unknown how his eye was painted as no photos have surfaced. [1] This paint job was likely only used on this first Moon,as by the time Show nr.3 was built,moon's mask gained a more standard paint job [2] with him being painted a light blue with white shading,black shaded craters and creases,black edges,a red nose and cheek,a green eye with a very small black pupil.Trough 1980-1981 the paint job would stay mostly consistent,with a few minor changes over time,such as the pupil being painted larger trough 1981,some moons around thsi time were even painted with no pupils. [3] In the late 1981 batches some Moons were being painted a darker blue,with even darker edges,and with the lips being painted with a faint bit of red. [4] By the next batch the moon's lips were being painted the same color as his nose and cheek and he'd be reverted to his original shade of blue.This would become the standard paint job for the Moon
Moon animatronics would continue to be produced up until 1983. The January batch would be the last used inside ShowBiz Pizza restaurants, and would be kept and stored for future openings, while Creative Engineering would continue to produce bots until June. Now with a surplus of bots, these would need to be sold to other family entertainment centers.
During Concept Unification process,The Moon would not be converted into anything,and he would be the only bot to go unmodified during CU [5]
Design
The Moon is a blue crescent moon with craters all over it's body,a red nose,a big mouth with red lips and rosy red cheeks,and a large green eye.
Movements
The Moon features 2 movements.His airlines are connected to the props valve bank [6]

It's important to note that early Moon mechanisms used to have a body turn,however this movement was never programmed and the valve it would've run on (valve nr.6) had it's ports plugged.After the initial production batch the body turn was removed.When the Looney bird hand retrofit was introduced valve nr.6 would be reused for it.
