The Hippo (Animatronic), officially known as Nellie (of the Nile) was an never completed animatronic character set to be built by Creative Engineering in 1983 for the never fully built show The Jungle Juke Band
History
In 1983 Creative Engineering advertised in that years brochure their "Shows now available for quick delivery".One of which was the The Jungle Juke Band which Nellie of the Nile was a part of. [1] She ended up being the only character that would have any sort of progress on her done.Judging by her size and instrument of choice and Creative Engineering 's other efforts of selling their unused Rock-afire Explosion animatronics, [2] shes thought to have been planned as a partial retrofit of the Fatz Geronimo (Animatronic) notably with a diffrent headframe with longer mouth lever mounts,a very large mouth lever, and initially at least ear levers. It's believed from photos that her mouth lever was a modified Uncle Klunk (Animatronic) mouth lever with a longer bar where the plate attaches.Possibly explaining the exitance of the rare longer 1 1/2 inch version of the mouth lever.
Creative Engineering artist Nancy would sculpt the character's mask, [3] notably removing the ear mech in favour of smaller static ears. This is as far the charcater (and presumably the rest of the show)ever got.
A plug of this sclupt was sold on eBay in early 2025 for 1000$ [4] and was bough by "georgeebonilla" [5]
Design
She would've been a large animatronic hippo in a yellow and black leopard print dress, with large red lips, green eyes and lashes, playing an organ made out of 2 logs as legs, bambo as the main keybord's structure with blue fabric filling in the gaps and a brown flag with what looks to be a black, red and white indigenous tribe mask on it.On top of the organ would stand 6 birds with red bodies black and yellow striped necks, purple heads and feather on top of said heads, and long yellow beaks. These birds seem to have been intended to extend their necks and bop their heads up and down while opening their beeks
Movements
If were going off of Fatz's mech,Nellie would've had 16 movements not counting the removed ear movements [6]
